The success has garnered a movie deal and a beautifully executed book. Walsh talked to us about the ideas, the designs and the aftermath of one of the most talked about projects in recent years. After 40 days went viral, we were approached by numerous editors and publishers who wanted us to write a book. We went sure if it made sense to make the blog into a book format unless there was significant new content. After everything, the number one question we received from fans was: What happened after Day 40? This was a real labor of love for us. One of the most rewarding and surprising aspects of the result of releasing the blog was that we connected to people and started a dialogue about love and relatinoships Ultimately, we knew that our stories and issues were not unlike a lot of people’s issues. As creative people, we love the process of making something provocative that could potentially inspire and touch people. Naturally, as designers and art directors, it was important to us that 40 Days have an identity, however, it wasn’t until the project was over that we designed the site, shot the videos, photographed our items, asked for lettering contributions, etc.

When we spoke with Timothy for his digital interview, the project had already debuted. In many ways, it has clearly been good, but was doing it good for my design career? Jessica : 40 Days of Dating made me rethink my career and the way I work. Timothy : I recently heard a great quote by Lena Dunham. What was the most important lesson you learned about relationships, romantic or not, from the project?
Jessica : The most important lesson I learned was to relax, be myself, and not worry so much about dating or finding the right person. During the experiment, I was stressed out about relationships, working too much, and not living a healthy lifestyle. The experiment and therapy helped me realize that I needed to take care of myself. When the experiment ended, I was in the best state of mind: I was relaxed, balanced, and carefree. Coincidentally, as soon as I stopped looking for the right person, I found the love of my life a few months later—we just got married two weeks ago!

The website has received so much attention over the summer that Walsh and Goodman signed with talent agency CAA. Did anything interesting happen? Truthfully, I am quite nervous. However, I know that when an opportunity scares me, I must go for it. No matter what the outcome, it will certainly be an interesting experience. Hopefully we can have some fun along the way, too. Did you learn anything new about Timothy? He told me that when his mother got pregnant, his father made her choose between keeping the child or staying with him. It seems to me his dating style could result from this.
